We Need a 3Cassidy? Ummm... NO

As the girlz were playing in the tub tonight, Cassidy told me we need a another Cassidy. I asked what she meant, and she said "I'm 1Cassidy and we have a 2Cassidy, and now we need a 3Cassidy".

When I asked if Campbell was 2Cassidy, she said "Yes, she's another Cassidy. See? Her bottom is the same as mine... so now we need another Cassidy so we can have three".

I hate to break it to her, but there isn't going to be a 3Cassidy. Mommy and Daddy are running at full capacity with 1Cassidy and 2Cassidy!!

Craziness!

This has been a crazy week. I feel like we run at full speed from the time we wake up until we finally crash at night. It's almost as if someone shoots us out of a cannon EVERY DAY.

No matter how busy we get, we're never too busy to take cute pictures of pretty girlz. It's a good thing we have 2 pretty girlz of our own... it might be kind of awkward if we had to take pictures of other people's pretty girlz.

No Clothes Day

The teachers at the school are fantastic. They make a special effort to be sure the kids are learning critical skills and concepts, while having tons of fun every day.

We've had Pajama Day, Red/White/Blue Day, Princess Day, Red Shirt Day... you name it, and we've probably done it.

Earlier this week, Cassidy's teacher told me she made a request for a special day. Not just any special day, a "No Clothes Day".

She doesn't like to wear clothes at home, but I honestly never thought she'd ask for a "No Clothes Day" at school. How does she think of this stuff?

Cousins!!

We got to spend the afternoon with our cousins today! We rarely get to see them because they moved to Florida a few years ago, so it was GREAT to catch up and let the kids play.

Cassidy decided she wanted me to paint her toes tonight. Once I was done with hers, she decided I needed to paint Campbell's toes too. Unfortunately, Campbell doesn't sit as still as Cassidy and I made a huge mess all over her feet. Definitely an A for effort, but an F for execution. We're going to have to give it a few months before we try again.

Cassidy's toes look great...

... but Campbell's toes didn't turn out so good.

Italian Ice

We went to the Famer's Market yesterday and introduced the girlz to Italian Ice. They love it.

Actually - they don't just love it, they LURVE it. Check out their adorable cherry Italian Ice-stained faces!!

Score One For Head Nerd!

We made it through our logistical nightmare of a week without misplacing our babies OR losing our minds. I call that success.

Even better, my fancy Nerd Meetings went very well and I got rave reviews from my Nerdy friends. Plus, I looked HAWT in my fancy clothes and smart girl glasses. Score one for Head Nerd!!!

The meetings started Tuesday morning, and I kicked things off with a bang. Or maybe I should say a "smack"? I got to the office very early to set-up, and once everything was in place I went down the hall in search of a drink. Bad idea. I slipped and fell on the linoleum flooring. I didn't just fall... I landed directly on my right knee and left ankle - HARD. The good news is a maintenance guy heard me fall and helped me get back up. The bad news is I looked neither fancy nor smart laying in the middle of the floor.

You can dress me up, but you can't take me out. I dread the day the girlz realize I'm not half as cool as they think I am!!

A Lazy Weekend

With the exception of dance, the visit to BFF's house, church, and a quick dip in the pool, we mostly hung around the house this weekend. The girls played in the backyard for a long time Saturday and Sunday. Campbell even slid down the toddler slide!!

It was important to keep it somewhat low-key this weekend... we have an EXTREMELY hectic week ahead of us. I'm facilitating a big meeting at the Nerdery this week. Nerds from all across the country will be onsite for the Nerd Pow-Wow, and I had to plan everything... where we'll meet, what we'll eat, when we'll eat, what we'll talk about, when we'll talk about it. That's the joy of being Head Nerd.
.
So anyway, I'm pretty much out of pocket for the next three days. Sergeant Sexy's schedule will be switching back and forth between day shift and night shift throughout the week, which only adds to our logistical nightmare. There are lots of moving parts this week, and it will be simply amazing if we make it to the end of the week and haven't misplaced one of our babies.

Playdate With The BFF

We had something wonderful planned for the girlz today... a playdate with Cassidy's BFF and family!! We've never been to Marissa's house before, so Cassidy and Campbell had a ball checking out the house and playing with the toys. Marissa has siblings, and that made the whole experience even more fun.

Cassidy and Marissa were both very upset when it was time to leave. I was upset, too... Marissa and her family are fun to be around!!!

I Made A New Rule

Campbell scared the mess out of me yesterday morning. Her hair is getting longer, so we're constantly fighting to keep it out of her face. I would entertain the idea of cutting bangs, but we did that with Cassidy and I hated how it looked on her. Since Big C and Little C look very much the same, I'm not willing to take that chance. So we wrestle with her hair every day.

Big C let us put hair pretties in her hair, and didn't even notice they were there until she was at least 2 years old. Nothing gets by Little C, and she loves to rip hair pretties from her hair after you've spent 10 minutes getting it just right. I've tried spraying hairspray on my hand and running it through her hair, but it doesn't do much to help. Yesterday morning I used a small rubberband to tie her hair out of her face. We got 3/4 of the way to school when I noticed Little C in the baby mirror, sans hair tie.
.
I didn't think much of it until I called her name and she didn't look up. Her eyes were half-open, but she wasn't responding to my voice. Was she falling asleep or choking? I pulled over and scooped my finger through her mouth... nothing. I looked on the floorboard, no hair pretty. I looked in the car seat.. no hair pretty. I looked in the space between Little C's carseat and Big C's car seat... no hair pretty.
.
I was pretty sure she'd swallowed it, so I finished the drive to school and told Auntie what had happened. Auntie gave her some juice to drink while I drove down the street to buy a pacifier. Yes... on top of all that, I'd forgotten to put her pacifier in the car when we left the house. It seems like once our mornings start to go downhill, they only get worse.
.
When I got back to the school, I checked the floorboard one more time and found the hair pretty.
.
What a relief!
.
I made a new rule yesterday. No more hair ties or small hair pretties go in Little C's hair. From now on, all she gets are big ass hair bows. They won't fit in her mouth, and I can quickly find them amongst the toys, sippy cups, papers, and trash in my car.
.
She went to school looking like this today.

Going, Going...

Smart Girl Glasses

I have a secret weapon at work. It transforms me from one of the regular Nerds to one of the super-smart, ultra-confident, overachieving Nerds. Wanna know what it is? It's my Smart Girl Glasses.

The prescription on them is very slight, so I can certainly see without them. But I wear them to every meeting - especially the face-to-face ones. Call me crazy, but I seriously think I look smarter with the Smart Girls on.
.
Campbell is learning early. She's going to be a Smart Girl, too.

Hair Bows

I love them. The bigger the better.

I'm a southern girl to the bones, and nothing looks sweeter to me on a Sunday morning than a pretty girl in a smocked dress with a hair bow and patent leather shoes.
.
I learned how to make hair bows myself because the nice ones are expensive. It's much cheaper to make them yourself, and you're always sure to get exactly what you want. It's not hard, it just takes a little time and practice. To me, it's TOTALLY worth it.

We're trying to help Campbell learn to love the hair bow. Her hair gets in her face, but she insists on pulling any kind of hair pretty out of her hair. She forgot about this hair bow long enough for me to get a picture and get her to church. It was in her bag by the time Sunday School was over.
.
Doesn't she look sweet?

A Very Happy and Very Sad Day

During Cassidy's dance class this morning, I got bored and checked my Facebook. There was some wonderful news waiting for me... a few hours earlier, my niece had her baby girl! Welcome to our family, RainyAnne!!!

I was so excited, I sent a text to Sergeant Sexy.

Isn't it weird how sometimes you just know things are going to happen before they actually happen? An old friend of mine has been battling cancer for two and a half years. I knew her in high school and college, but we'd lost touch after college. It turns out she married a very good friend of mine, who I'd also lost touch with after college. Laura and I reconnected about a year ago and I learned that she'd been sick for quite some time.

She hasn't been doing well at all for the last week, and her poor family has been on a death watch for a few days. I kept hoping she'd somehow pull out of it, but I knew deep down this was probably it for her.

As soon as I learned RainyAnne had been born, I knew in my heart it was Laura's day to go. Sure enough, she was called home about an hour later. Part of me has been so happy all day, and another part of me has been incredibly sad.

Please keep the Davis and Doudera families in your prayers. They lost a wife, daughter, sister, and aunt this morning. Worst of all, a precious three year-old little boy has lost his mother. She was only 32 years old.

I'm so happy, and yet I have a bad case of the sadz.

Farmer's Market

Our prissy neighborhood includes an uber-fancy restaurant and a set of shoppes. We don't usually spend much time up there, but we have a new reason to shop at the shoppes this summer.

During July, there's a Farmer's Market every Friday - FUN! We walked up there tonight to check things out, but didn't bring any money. Next week, we're definitely going to be prepared. The girls had a great time, and I'm looking forward to bringing home some fresh corn and a pecan pie next week!

Baby Belly Laughs

I honestly think this is the sweetest sound on earth. Not to be conceited or anything, but it really is.

I'm just sayin'.

Monster Baby

Campbell is walking all over the place these days. We suspect she may be part monster because she walks with her hands out and her legs stiff. I half expect her to belt out a good "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH" every now and then.

Just look at the fat rolls on her legs... it really doesn't get much cuter than that. Seriously.

Cassidy has developed a new and somewhat annoying habit. She's gotten to where she likes to put stickers in the middle of her forehead EVERY DAY. She came home from school sporting this Uniqua sticker today. Classy.

Field Trip Day!!!

Cassidy's class took a field trip today to see the Curious George movie. Miss Courtney said Cassidy liked the movie so much, she asked if they could watch it again!!

Dressed in red for field trip day!

Campbell's class didn't go... they're still too young for field trips.

More Fun With Friends

Sergeant Sexy's back is still not doing right, so I took the girls to church by myself today. We had plans at Meredith, Lindsey, and Katie's house for lunch, so we raced home after church and made ice cream cone cupcakes (with red and blue sprinkles!) to take with us.
.
Sergeant Sexy missed out on everything today. I'm ready for his back to feel better.

Campbell was so busy playing with the kitchen, she wouldn't turn around and look at me. The little stinker must be taking cues from her sister.

Happy Birthday, America!!!

It's not a holiday without a trip to the ER! This time the injured was Daddy. His back was sore yesterday morning and he thought it might help if Cassidy walked on it. I think she must have hit a sore spot that made him twitch the wrong way, and he's been in pain ever since.

It hurt so bad he almost couldn't get out of bed this morning, so off to the ER we went. We were in and out within 30 minutes! We were able to stop by Walgreens on the way home for his meds and were back at the house an hour after we left. Mama and Papa came over to play with the girls while we were gone, and they barely even had to time to miss us.

Now, on with the fun!

I let Sergeant Sexy rest his messed-up back and took the girls to the Family Fun event at the church across the street. We had a blast!!!

Bounce House

The slide was slippery and she got turned around, but still loved it!!!

Eating her purple snow cone

Later in the afternoon, we went to our friend's house to watch fireworks from their front porch. They have an awesome waterfront view, and we could see 6-7 fireworks shows going on at the same time. It was SO COOL.

Cassidy LOVED the sparklers!

And the Oscar for Best Dramatic Sequence goes to...

... Campbell Censored-Last-Name!!!!

I've had just about enough of the nighttime theatrics as I can handle. Her cries are so intense, it's as if someone has come into our house and torn her arm off. So dramatic. So pitiful.

We are blessed to go to church with a Triage Nurse from Dr. Pediatrician's office. Although we make a point to avoid talking work stuff with her at church, we sometimes break down and ask a question every now and then. When Cassidy was an infant, our Triage Nurse friend told us to try not to pick her up when she was crying at night. We followed her directions with Cassidy, but we've been picking Campbell up because her cries are so intense.

Last night I decided to see if I could get her back to sleep without taking her out of the crib. It took some time, but it worked. And her performance was definitely Oscar-worthy.

So it looks like the joke's on us. All this time, that little stinker was just putting on a show.
