The girlz dressed in their very best Notre Dame cheer wear for College Day today. Cassidy's outfit is getting to be just a smidge too small, so we'll need to get her something else before Spirit Week 2012 rolls around.
We got a late start to school because of CAT DRAMA! at our house. Sergeant Sexy noticed a cat in our front yard yesterday evening, but we didn't think too much of it. By the time we went to bed, the cat was sitting by our front door. Sergeant Sexy was all "Leave, Man" but the cat stayed put. We noticed it had tags and looked very well-kept, so we figured it would go back home eventually.
When we opened the front door this morning, the cat was sitting in the same spot peering back at us through the glass storm door. CAT DRAMA!
I was able to read his tags through the glass and got the cat's name (Chester) and the owner's phone number (disconnected). The vet's number was also on the tag, so I called them. They tried to get in touch with the owner, but didn't have any luck either.
It turns out ol' Chester is a well-loved, 17 year-old cat who is completely up-to-date on his shots. His owners are a wonderful older couple who are members of our church. They live right behind us and moved away very recently, leaving their daughter in charge of the cat. She's clearly not doing a very good job.
17 year-old cats don't have any business being outside in damp, chilly weather, so the vet came to our house and got Chester.
Note to self: When we get another dog, we should go to that vet.
Meanwhile, the girls fell in love and asked several times if we could keep him. I'm terribly allergic to cats, which creates a dilemma. I tried to explain the toss-up between the cat and Mommy. They can keep one or the other - not both. They finally decided to keep me. How generous.
We had to wait a few extra minutes for the vet to get to the house and ended up leaving for school a little later than we usually do. Our CAT DRAMA! quickly turned into a mad rush to get out the door, which Campbell does not appreciate.
The story has a happy ending. Chester is now back with his people, the girlz got to school on time, and I get to continue living in our house.
Every now and then, a little CAT DRAMA! is a nice distraction from the usual routine!
