Deep down, I knew it wasn't going to happen. The weekend weather report has been calling for rain most of this week... by the time the Friday night Dress Rehearsal rolled around, we all knew Saturday would be a complete wash-out. And it was. All the performances scheduled for the Family Stage were cancelled before the day even got started.
We woke up this morning and I was determined to get us to the fair, even if was only for an hour. We got there just after the gates opened and stayed much longer than I thought we would.
Cassidy rode a ton of rides, but we were careful to choose the safest-looking ones. Some weren't open because of the rain, and others just looked too dangerous. I'm very leery of fair rides... remember 4th of July? When the swings turned evil and started spitting kids out? We did let her ride the swings, a little roller coaster, a flying ride, the tea cups, and she even took a spin through a fun house. She would have done much more if we'd let her. Campbell rode a firetruck ride, the tea cups (twice), and went through the fun house with Cassidy.
The fairgrounds were a muddy mess, but the girlz still had a great time. We saw people we knew at every turn, and the Midway was better than ever. By the time we left, we had mud up to our knees! Lucky thing I keep a change of clothes in the car for the girlz - we stripped them down and were able to preserve the last bits of niceness left in the Silver Bullet.
The girlz thought the entire day was OUTSTANDING. And while trying to navigate two little kids through a maze of mud and gunk was challenging, the memories we made today will last forever.
And really, it only took 10 minutes to wash off the shoes and throw the clothes in the washer. No harm, no foul.
It was totally worth it.
